Anaesthesia demo, Guatemala 2024
Demonstrating a field-deployable anaesthesia machine in an old teaching classroom in a hospital. This stuff is tricky: The machine was in excellent condition, but without medical gases or any vaporiser it would be difficult to use. Consider that vaporisers are usually under a rental agreement anyway: it is difficult to figure out whether the system can ever be used again.
Also, I often wonder about the utility of such a machine - what good is an anaesthesia machine without a vaporiser? About as useful as an anaesthesia machine without an OT; which is about as useful as an OT without a surgeon, CSSD, nurses, technicians, recovery bay etc. Which is the larger problem?
